Immersed in the hilly landscape of Piedmont, surrounded by vineyards recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Villa Tinella has undergone a comprehensive renovation curated by Derkina Wiegman of Derkina Interior Design. This design process reimagined the historic residence as a contemporary holiday home, able to welcome family life without losing its architectural identity.
The design approach is based on a careful balance between preservation and transformation: the spaces are discreetly redefined and expanded, while the original details become an integral part of the new project, guiding the choice of colors, materials, and proportions. The result is a coherent narrative in which past and present coexist naturally.
The living area is the focal point of this new residential layout.
Here, the distribution of the rooms has been completely rethought to encourage light, openness, and connection with the outdoors. The kitchen and dining room become a single, fluid space, oriented toward the Monferrato panorama, while the slightly elevated living room acts as a connecting element, overlooking both the interiors and the garden. The constant dialogue with the greenery – among cypresses, roses, and lavender – strengthens the sense of continuity between architecture and landscape, a central theme of the entire project.
The warm, enveloping atmosphere of the interiors is the result of a palette of natural colors and soft materials, perfectly in harmony with the villa’s architecture.
The highlight of the wall coverings is the collection in gres porcelain with a terracotta effect Amuri in the 5.3×30 cm brick format, in the Avorio color, chosen for its textured and luminous surface, able to reinterpret the charm of craftsmanship in a contemporary way. Used as cladding, the brick creates vibrant surfaces rich in nuance, contributing depth to the spaces and enhancing their welcoming and elegant character.
Versatile and highly expressive, Amuri fits naturally into a space that highlights the relationship between past and present, demonstrating how ceramics can be the common thread of a project that celebrates memory, reinterpreted with contemporary sensitivity.
An exemplary case of how an interior design project can enhance existing heritage, introducing modern solutions naturally within a Liberty-style villa, not through force but through coherent, sensitive, and timeless choices.
